ウィーンは英語でVienna （vién)
オーストリアの首都：ドナウ川のほとりに位置するウィーンは芸術・音楽の都として有名多くの観光客を引き寄せてきました。
ハプスブルク家の夏の離宮であったシェーンブルン宮殿など、帝国時代の宮殿でも有名です。旧市街をふくむ歴史地区も、「ウィーン歴史地区」として世界遺産に登録されています。
さて、日本語でウィーンと呼んでいるこの街は、オーストリアで公用語のドイツ語ではWien（Veen）と発音します。日本語読みに近いのはドイツ語ですね。英語でなんでViennaなのかオーストリアの先生もわからないって言っていた（笑）
紛らわしいけど南半球のオーストラリアとは語源の由来は全く違います。
