世界三大珍味といわれるフォアグラ、キャピア、トリュフ

トリュフ（Truffle）の発音ができなかったことからオンライン英会話で美食の話へ広がっていきました。

Foie gras, caviar, and truffles are said to be the world's three greatest delicacies.
Foie gras is made by fattening a goose to the state of a fatty liver.
Caviar is much less commonly encountered than foie gras. Caviar is the egg of a sturgeon.
And truffles are prized as a flavoring for sauces in French cuisine. It is especially famous for the black truffles that are always embedded in the center of foie gras pâté.

インドネシアの先生によるとkecap = sweet soy sauceとして言葉が残っているようです。ケチャップといえばトマトケチャップを想像しますが、アメリカで大量生産されたトマト消費の解決方法が今日のケチャップの由来ってのは面白いですね。

今回の英語で日本を説明は「日本食の発酵食品とその原料」

 

日本食の話になると、酒や味噌、醤油など発酵食品の説明ができると話の幅が広がります。そこで発酵食品について英語でざっくり説明を作りました。

 

"Fermented foods in Japan can be divided into three categories based on the ingredients: miso, soy sauce, natto, and sake made from fermented grains and beans; salted fish, dried bonito flakes, and sushi（ narezushi ）made from fermented fish; and pickles made from fermented vegetables.
